Narrative
On an island of fortune and want, teenager John B enlists his three best friends to search for a legendary treasure linked to his father’s disappearance. Chase Stokes, Madelyn Cline and their “OBX” co-stars ask each other what the best lines are from their hit Netflix series. It was filmed in Charleston, South Carolina; It was originally intended to be filmed in Wilmington, North Carolina.
So what’s not to like?
Having watched all three seasons of Outer Banks, I can’t deny that I had a good time: all episodes are full of fast-paced adventures, treasure hunts and villain chases, all in exotic locations and with a few extra romantic entanglements among the young and attractive cast. Well, I have some reservations too. The events are extremely unlikely and unrealistic: for example, how this group of teenage friends manages to escape again and again right under the noses of the police or heavily armed criminals, often riddled with bullets, but always unscathed; or how they solve amazing mysteries (such as treasures hidden for centuries or the location of the legendary El Dorado) in the blink of an eye or thanks to unexpected strokes of luck.
And of course silly nicknames like JJ and Pope and John B (what does B refer to anyway?)
Apparently, the young actors are meant to illustrate the importance of true friendship, but their youthful demeanor gradually gets on your nerves, what with all the bro-uncle behavior and the inevitable backwards caps. They all look good, but the acting is adequate, only Drew Starkey really stands out as the troubled Rafe and Rudy Pankow was quite convincing as the ADHD whiz JJ. In fact, it’s more of a teen series that barely crosses the lines of The Hardy Boys or Nancy Drew.

Maybe as a reasonable adult, I shouldn’t be seeing this at all, but hey, sometimes it’s nice to follow a nice easy flow without thinking too much. Once again… No need to waste your time scrolling endlessly – here’s the complete list of new movies and TV shows streaming on Netflix this month.
